When you say forwards-compatible, did you mean to talk about backwards compatibility with <nixpkgs/lib>. Since we don't want to break lib functions that nix implements? Or did you mean it in another sense?

I meant it to mean that we won't make large breaking changes to stdlib often (and/or will find some versioning mechanism to mitigate this). Currently it is just nixpkgs/lib so it is backwards compatible - I don't know if we want to commit to that though.
