How to build?

I'm trying to build Plato, but don't get very far.

On Fedora 42 (arm64), I can't find two libraries. It seems like they aren't available in Fedora:

What host system is normally used for building Plato?

I was just checking how difficult it would be to add new features to Plato. Something like adding Instapaper support would be really nice now that Pocket is closing down.

I've been using an Arch container via toolbox/distrobox (should be included in your Fedora) and I get it building by ensuring that gumbo and mupdf are a certain version using downgrade: sudo downgrade libmupdf=1.23.11 gumbo-parser=0.12.1. Also make sure you grabbed all the other libraries from pacman, they usually work fine, try to find the name of the package of openjp2 for example. Then, I remove -third from mupdf-third from build.rs in the core crate and keep it like that. Then I change something random in build.rs to make it clean build with the library versions I have. This is a very hacky setup but it works with the least deviation from the build instructions for me.

Unfortunately Arch only supports x86_64 processors. I use an aarch64 processor (Asahi Linux) so I can't use it.
It would be very nice if Plato supported something like Debian, which is very stable (only updating every 2 years) and works everywhere inside distrobox.

(Yes Arch Linux ARM exists, but it's not the same as Arch).

I am not sure why but Debian packages don't help.

I am not sure about openjp2 library, but for mupdf-third and libmupdf libraries; you may try to build in a container and then using docker container cp (or podman container cp etc.) command, copy dependencies to your local filesystem.
Or you can build MuPDF 1.23.11 libraries with in distrobox distro.

Got a little bit further trying to get this to work on Debian. After installing libmujs-dev and linking to mujs, it actually built!

Unfortunately, this doesn't actually work. I get the following error:

cannot create context: incompatible header (1.23.11) and library (1.21.1) versions

I guess that means the Debian package is not of the right version?

Changing the version number at the top of mupdf_sys.rs gets it to run 🙃
(Yeah I'm aware that's a giant hack and might break, but at least it runs now: I can view pdf and epub files inside the emulator).

I've tried this and can confirm this workaround works on Debian 12.10 bookworm.

Instead of compiling & installing MuPDF libraries oneself, one can use somewhat older version dpkgs.

To reproduce the whole thing, you can use:
