Yep! With the caveat that it is anything in the catalogue.

I bumbled through this process and hit some bumps, I think this is the approach for adding new layers that are available in supported formats in the BC Data Catalogue (to be confirmed with a subsequent run through):

(1) clone or fork bcmaps and check out a branch
(2) add the layer data to a row in layers_df.csv [tip: you can use bcdata::bcdc_tidy_resources("current-census-economic-regions") to ensure you have the correct record ID and resource ID for the layer]
(3) source data-raw/create_internal_data.R script
(4) run devtools::load_all()
(5) run bcmaps:::make_shortcuts()
(6) check R/shortcuts.R diff to see if new layer shortcut has been successfully added
(7) run devtools::document() to update the package documentation
(8) update NEWS re: new layer and issue
(9) commit/s, push to your clone or fork branch, create PR, request code review

I think there is a step between 3 and 4: devtools::load_all()
