Open Consult - Standard status

Good morning,

Just curious what the status of this standard is... I see that it's still Draft and maybe that was around 2015. Is there a roadmap for Standard in the next year or two? Have any other organizations, or governments started using this standard.

Hi @MaryBethBaker, this standard was begun as a co-project of BC government public engagement staff and placespeak.com. I worked on the first and second drafts with input from @juhewitt, @DavidR8, and others while I was working at PlaceSpeak. I no longer work there but I continue to think this is a plausible standard that could be beneficially used. @juhewitt may have some comment about provincial interest in using or iterating on it.

Hi there, first of all, this is some great work!

Something I'm wondering is whether there might be appetite to look at the process of matching this schema up with those on schema.org? I note the schema.org has set schemas for GovernmentService, GovernmentOrganization, and GovernmentPermit.

Having "GovernmentConsultation" represented there might be a good thing to get further global tracktion on this as a standard.

Was schema.org. considered generally when this standard was put together? :)

@camfindlay Thanks! We did not consider alignment with schema.org standards during initial development, mostly just because I had just gone through the process of aligning another standard with BLDS, and that's where my head was at.

But I agree that it seems sensible to align with the schema.org examples you point to, and I don't suppose it would take a tonne of work (I am not myself actively working on this standard at the moment).

I've mapped the OpenConsult schema to the current "Event" scehma on schema.org (will post shortly). I dont think it would tak much to extend this to a "PublicEvent" or "ConsultationEvent" or "GovernmentConsultation". It might be that we do all of these in the spirit of schema.org's nested schema approach. We'll need to find out how to propose new schemas to the team there - as far as Ive seen they have a github account and use issues to manage all this.

OpenConsult mapped to the current Event schema http://schema.org/Event

Event allows for nested/multiple events relating to a parent event (similar to the structure set out in OpenConsult), this uses the properties superEvent and subEvent.

Event schema can account for documents eg. http://schema.org/DigitalDocument however this is not specific a property of Event, this is where we could add value by defining a ConsultationEvent schema.

The geographic scope is not part of Event, again we could include in a ConsultationEvent OR allow this as a custom and optional extra.
