Improve efficency of plot_energy_path()

An approximation of the energy path can be easily plotted using the watershed algorithm on the negative of the energy array (creates a geometric dual of what we get normally - which happens to make the paths).

More complicated than it seems at first - watershed algorithm is affected by distortion at triple points, so doesn't do the best job in plotting the energy paths.
