Foldernames + Dashes in Filenames (have seen issue 5)

Hey guys,

I saw the solution in issue 5 re: folder-names and dashes in the filename, but I'm affraid the proposed solution won't work for me. I'm using Assets by Pixel and Tonic for file-selection and what-not, and don't know before-hand where the files I want to offer for download will be placed. Is there a way this can be switched from the serving-template to the calling-tag or is there some other solution?

Hi Steven,

I see the problem - it may require a rewrite at my end to work around this one. I'm wondering however if you've tried using any of the tags provided by Assets to deal with this one http://pixelandtonic.com/assets/docs/templates

I'm thinking something like this might work:

{exp:downloadfile:serve restricted="mydomain.com" prepend="mysite" remove_path="{subfolder}"  parse="inward"}

Alternatively, you may need to include your allocated upload path in there too, like so:

{exp:downloadfile:serve restricted="mydomain.com" prepend="mysite" remove_path="{filedir_5}{subfolder}" parse="inward"}

Where {filedir_5} = the upload dir with an id of 5.

Well the issue is sort of that the serving-template doesn't know what file is being server other then the base64-encoded string, so it has no idea where to fetch the {subfolder} variable from... If this could somehow be passed as a variable my problem would be solved. I'd be more then willing to donate beers / coffee to sponsor building this :)

Sorry, turned out I ended up working all weekend on something which was due Friday...! Friday / Monday... same thing...!

Any way, I've just got my head around what you need now and I'll look at whizzing something up tonight. It will probably be pretty specific to "Assets" though, i.e. will allow you to pass the "id" of the Assets file you're after and then pull the path straight from the DB. This won't make it perfect for everyone but it should improve it next time I'm looking at doing this same thing!
