Do not suggest avoiding the transitive verb 'is'

In a sentence using the word 'is', I get this suggestion:

Try to avoid using 'is'.

I don't think it is reasonable to suggest avoiding a common transitive verb like 'is'. There is really no way to avoid the word in any kind of writing, and it is widely considered an appropriate verb regardless of industry or audience.
