Very slow, bad performance

Converting 100mb ifc file to JSON using ifc2json.py with geometry disabled.
Currently at ~10mins with no user feedback as to whether it has stalled, broken, or is happily still working.

Was python really the right choice for this? I can see it's only cranking one thread.
Is there a similar utility that runs faster?
Functionality is good (worked fine on 10mb ifc)

We chose python for this because of the flexibility for prototyping.
Flexibility and simplicity are still the main focus, but also in python it could be built much faster.
On the side we are exploring other approaches.

ifc needs to be broken into modules. gltf has done a good job with json, json schema there.
