+Ok, so i take this class thinking it is going to be the most significant to my career in nursing, but turns out its a class where you write about different kinds of technology. Even though most of my papers are going to be based upon machines in the medical field i dont see how this class in particular is going to help me in my career as a nurse. It is one of those classes where they say you need it but in reality you really don't need it to succeed. It is just a way for them to make you take an extra class; On the bright side of this situation, id rather be writing about different kinds of technology than African culture, or Women in America; that class would bore me to death and its probably a topic that i would fall asleep while writing about. I'm a good writer so I'm pretty sure that this class will be fairly simple for me, at least i hope it will be. I really don't need any more extremely hard classes at the moment. I'd end up going insane or going through nervous breakdowns every night, neither of which is good for mine or anyone's health.
+Today seemed like a pretty easy day in class since all we did was make our online accounts and submit our papers to Eli. The one thing I cannot stand about this class though is the amount of websites that it uses. I miss when everything used to be in a textbook and you would do the work, write the information down, type it up and hand it in. This whole, " I think its a good idea to put assignments online and have my students submit them irks me. Why should I have to go on multiple websites to do different assignments related to the one topic we are discussing? I mean if professors are going to start making us do our stuff online, I strongly believe that it should be on one website or through email. This class alone has Github, Elireview, D2l, and who knows what else is coming. My other classes have online work too and it makes me go insane sometimes because I never know where to go for what class because I have so many different cites to use. MSU needs to reevaluate this concept.

3 words. I HATE GITHUB. This website is probably the most confusing thing I have ever laid my eyes upon. You have to "fork" things, which I guess is a copy and paste option and I dont understand why they just dont call it COPY AND PASTE. It is a simple concept but they word things completely insane. I personally think it is the most rhetorical concept I have ever laid my eyes upon. On top of that, they have THE WORST set up ever for Windows. The Mac set up is a piece of cake because I saw someone do it at the library but no the windows version must have been made by the devil because there is no way that one person would be able to do this by themselves. My laptop is also telling me that my source cannot be found when I tried to open my blog. Excuse me, but I think that after I spent hours trying to configure this program my blog should be somewhere. It is the simple things about this class in general that I don't seem to understand.

So I guess that this guy wants to relay a message to his Uncle about how he let him on this Earth without anyone to be there for him because just as he experienced being shunned by the family before killing himself this kid is now too. He is going through the same life experiences that traumatized his uncle before he passed. The video achieves his purpose by the use of a letter and the broadcasting involved. He hoped that some way some how his uncle would see it and he probably did so, but obviously from a distance. This video taught me to make my lived project personal and no one can tell me my opinion is wrong because it is my story, whether people choose to accept it or not. The structure of the message was very adamant. The author made his point very strongly without any vague points at all.

I turned in my project, without many corrections only because my rough draft was rated a 50/50 which I am extremely proud of. I am confident that my paper will have a positive final grade and that the professor will likethe flow of my paper. It was not one of those generic papers where the beginning immediately runs into what the paper talks about but instead starts with an interesting topic that begins the nice flow on the primary subject of my paper. I am pretty sure that the prof will appreciate my narrative not only because my story is touching but it also shows how much a nerd I really am, which I think is kind of funny how I incorporated it into my paper. I kind of figured that this class would be kind of simple but I am scared that it will get harder as the class progresses. I am almost sure that i will achieve my goal of having a 4.0 in the class.

The role of women in the tech industry has dramatically increased; earlier in the decade is was primarily a man's job but now women are getting involved in such activities. They have proven that a it is something that not only men can do but women as well, and sometimes even better than the average male worker. Women have been advancing in the world since the beginning of the 18th century ( the 1900's). Even though they are advancing in the tech industry, some employers still prefer to hire men over women because it was originally a man's job and people are still in that specific mindset, which is wrong but will not be ignored by some people. As, a woman I believe there should be no special treatment what so ever and using the tech industry as an example, men still get paid a certain amount more than an average female worker because it was believed that it was a man's job to take care of the household, but no a days we have women that are single parents and women that are living on their won as well so why should men get special treatment? This is something i have always wondered when it comes to certain jobs and their picture of what the industry should look like and how their pay role is set up.

There are times that this class can tend to be very frustrating and today is one of those days. I wish i had some type of Codeacadmey background because half of the time i have no idea what they are talking about. it would have been really helpful to have taken that project last year in AP lit where we made a website, because then i wouldnt be having sucha a hard time with this. It is definitely something i would recommend to someone before taking this class.
+
it is so nice only having to go to class once per week but at the same time, it tends to be super annoying that we stay in class so long. Id sooner take a class that is three days per week and has 50 minutes each lecture period. Im not one for the hour and a half long lectures. I get super aggitated if i sit in one spot too long. i was always that kid in elementary who could never sit still and always had to walk around. this class is the only one that i have that lasts this long and its the longest hour and a half of my life.
+
this code stuff will be the death of me. and i dont understand why i need this type of stuff for my major. i will be treating patients when i am older, so why am i paying to take a class where i have to make websites? it just doesnt make sense to me. all i would like to do is take science clases because i am actually going to use and retain that knowledge. it just doesnt make sense to me. not only do i feel this way about his class but also a few of the other ones that i have to take uch as iss and iah classes. there is no way i will ever use them ever again.
+
as each day passes, i am looking forward to the next semester. there is just something about my schedule that i cannot stand right now and i am sick of ll my classes. a paper here a paper there, some owl, and now my stats professor decided to add on web work in the middle of the semester. and now that we have a group project in this class coming up i have no clue what i am going to do. talk about being overstressed.
+
i hate group projects. the only thing that makes me more upset than an early deadline is having people in a group that dont do the work. luckily we get to choose our groups so im not too worried about our project. im sure it will be fine, the only issue that i am currently worried about is the times and dates of when we will be able to meet and get this thing done. i know it wont take long as long as we all cooperate and decide as a group.
+
i am so happy that we do not have a final in this class. it is going to make that week before break starts so much easier knowing that i have one less thing to worry about especially since i have everything done for the rest of the semester in this class except for my code stuff but that will not take too long to conquer. im all done in my chemistry class except for my exam and stats im just hopng to do well in. for some reason that class is not as easy as it should have been. im doing decent but not as well as i should be doing.
+
as this class comes to a close i really think i will miss it, only because of it being such an easy class to begin with. i am naturally good at writing papers and getting things in on time, so this class wasnt all that hard for me. i really wish some of these aspects came naturally to me though. such as the coding. that was probaby the hardest part about this class. it was just so difficult to understand at times because it is just not what i am used to. i now give credit to those going into that field because i could never do this again.
+
this final project is going to be a piece of cake. especially since the group i am in for the web part of it is with all my friends in the class so it shouldnt be too hard of an assignment. the only tricky part is going to be combining all of our ideas into one massive one, which even then wont be too hard because the way they were talking makes me think that we have the general concepts in line. the paper doesnt seem that hard either. its literally just talking about everything we have done during the whole semester. im sure ill be fine.
+
overall i kinda enjoyed this class. not so much the work, but becasue of the flexibility that came along with it. only haveing class once a week, long deadlines, and easy assignments was a very easy way to make the switch into college. i just was not used to the lack of discipline because my english teacher in high school was very strict, and gave no mercy to anyone unless it was within reason. so i guess you could say that this class was much easier than anything i have endured in high school. it was nice to take a break from all the hard stuff and relax a bit.

“You fail only if you stop writing.” This quote is an easy resemblance to one of the writing classes here at MSU. Writing takes place every day whether people realize it or are oblivious to the fact. The writing class that will be explained is WRA 110 Science and Technology. This WRA class not only teaches students how to use the correct form and technique when writing papers but also builds character. Students going into the technical fields that contain several different math, science, and technology based classes are encouraged to take this scheduled class because it focuses on these certain concepts. This class also prepares you for the technical concepts that students will learn in the future when they are going through their undergrad. The class incorporates several thinking skills that these students will need for their schooling and their career.
+So many people are worried about first year college classes, especially the writing based classes. All the rumors that some classes require a twenty page paper with a deadline of a week seem so psych students out and give them extreme amounts of anxiety. In reality, these writing classes are meant to help students with their writing and not stress the out. This class is really nothing to worry too much about because they give you plenty of time to work on the paper and projects before they are actually due. The topics may seem vague at times but they are supposed to be because it is a beginner’s writing class, not an advanced one. Although they give you more than enough of time to do the assignments, it doesn’t mean that you should wait till the last minute to do them. It will only end in extreme amounts of stress and Procrastination is never a good idea. Just make sure to be on top of your assignments and everything will run smoothly in the class. It is as simple as you decide to make it.
+
In order to be successful in this specific writing class there are certain things that a student should be aware of, these include: style, technique, and background information on basic technology. This class will go over smoothly if these are qualities that the student possesses before they begin the class. There is a paper that focuses on the students choice of major and potential future, this project is the lived experience paper. For instance if the student is a pre- medicine major, it would be beneficial to know the many instruments that are used in a doctor’s office and hospital, because in order to write the paper efficiently, they must be able to describe the objects that they are speaking about because the reader may not know much about the piece of technology. The background knowledge just makes the papers easier and swifter to write.
+
The technique of the papers in this class is just like those of basic paper that one would write for an entrance exam. The student must be able to write in different formats and these include, formal, semi-formal, and informal. All of these qualities are used. Although the majority of students are taught not to use the words “I”, or “you” in papers, in this class there are quite a few times where this is acceptable: the lived experience, remix memo, and parts of certain assignments. Students need to understand that it is acceptable to use these words as long as it is approved by the teacher. These words are now appropriate to use in certain circumstances.
+
Another skill that would be beneficial to have is the basics of computer software and website design. In this class, a requirement is that for every project or paper they student makes, a web version is also required. Having some sort of knowledge with website work with make this class a lot less frustrating and less time consuming. On top of doing these web assignments for the papers and projects there is a website called codeacademy and students have to complete the web fundamentals section. This also comes with ease if you have a background in this specialty. Those who don’t have a background in web design will be able to succeed but at a greater difficulty. Codeacademy is designed to help those that do not know how to create a website, but this program can be very confusing and frustrating at times. This is the reason why some knowledge of web design would be recommended.
+
After obtaining these skills, the easiest part is to adapt them to your writing. As mentioned before, the Lived Experiences project is the biggest eye opener of the semester. It really makes you think about why you chose the major you did. Everything must be described in great detail because there are people that will not know what you are talking about. My paper was about my choice to pursue nursing and the reason why I chose it was because of my fear of needles. When most people think of needles, they think that they are all the same typically; it was my job to describe them in detail and express how this affected me in such a positive way. Without these key details, no one would understand what exactly was going on in my paper.
+
Another paper that you will write is the Cultural Analysis paper and this explains a social issue. If you want my advice, pick something easy that has an argument to go along with it such as gun control, teenage pregnancy, or even something political. This paper was probably the easiest out of the bunch because you get to voice your opinion on the subject without getting too heated or in a debate. This essay can be lengthy, but overall simple. Make sure to cite your sources using MLA or APA format. There are websites for this, one of the most popular being citationmachine.net. All you have to do is copy and paste the information and it spits out a citation. How easier could it get?
+
The most time consuming, and most difficult paper that you will encounter for this class is the Formal Research essay. It is by far the longest, by approximately 1,000 words and has the most criteria needed for it. Advice for this paper would be to talk to people about your major from your specific department, because you will need to do interviews for it anyways. What I did was I went to the hospital that I previously interned at over the summer and interviewed a few of the nurses that I had worked with. Resources come in various shapes and sizes, you just have to know how to use and recognize them. For this paper you also have to incorporate different types of writing and quotes from those in the profession. Advice for this is, go to the library and seek help from them. They know the most about being able to find these documents and also give incite on which ones to use. Try to find the resources you need to be successful, they’re out there.
+
Unlike the other projects, the Remix project involves not only a paper, but a video as well based on the topic that you choose to focus on. For this project instead of working by yourself, you get to work with other classmates which makes this project a lot easier. Team work is key for this project. Make sure you and your group members get along and your schedules can correlate or else it will be a long, hard, and stressful working period. Having the skills to make and edit a video is not mandatory, but could really help with this project. Just like the formal research project, this project can involve interviews to get different points across to the audience. Communication is key during this project, not just with the people in your group but with others as well in order to get the point across to the audience.
+
Ultimately, this class will prepare you for the future here at Michigan State University. Not only will it enhance your writing skills and aspects, but it also will teach you time management, responsibility, team work, social, and communication skills. This class is a great building block for incoming freshmen because it teaches you all that you will need to know and more for writing papers in college, where the most important thing to consider is your detail and description. Without proper usage of these concepts, the audience will not know what the paper is about and then the point is lost. This class will teach you how to use all concepts the proper way, but this one specifically. It is also a great class to start with in because it eases you into the college lifestyle. It’s a difficult class at times but it is not something that is doable for every student.

There has been a huge increase in the past decade involving pregnancy. People are calling this era the "baby boom" but is this a good thing? The answer is no. This surplus of babies being produced is not being caused by not only families, but teenagers as well, and in this case more teenagers are getting pregnant than the families are. This problem is something that needs to be taken care of before it gets too out of hand, even though it already has. There are ways that this epidemic can be fixed but it will take a lot of effort and time that is at the essence.
+
The thoughts and beliefs of America have been changing even before being declared a free country. It took the leaders of this nation to change their minds and work together to help shape the society we live in today. Without the amount of discussion, wars, and argumentative discussions that this nation has been through, the change would not have taken place, and the country would be how it was many years ago without any change what so ever.
+
As a country our thoughts upon how we view the world are constantly being altered. This can be supported by the epidemic of teenage pregnancy that has been occurring for the past decade. Less than a century ago, a woman was not allowed to go out in public without wearing conservative clothing and depending on the family or religion practices, also not able to be seen without a male authority figure. This fact can be used to explain how the family could potentially feel about teenage pregnancy; if their women were not even allowed to be in certain circumstances without being covered or supervised, getting pregnant at a young age was certainly frowned upon. If one looked at the world as we see it today, the way women dress in public looks nothing like how it was less than a century ago. For example, women today wear extremely revealing clothing, are not tied down as much by the male standard, and it is socially acceptable to be in public while pregnant. People from the past would be astonished to see the world as it is today because of the amount of change that this nation has gone through.
+
Looking at things from a more recent point of view, the technology that has been made is much more modern than anything ever invented before. Picture a basic three bedroom house. Most families have a television in every bedroom of the house and on those televisions are where these shows are being played. Sometimes it is hard to turn on the television and surf the channels without seeing at least one advertisement or show that has some connection to teenage pregnancy.
+Part of the reason why it is acceptable to see teenagers pregnant is because of the advertising involved with pregnancy. Commercials on television are starting to involve younger looking women in them to try and adapt to the ones who will buy their products because there are more young people starting to have families than those who are slightly older. On top of commercials on television, there are several television shows that express teenage pregnancy. According to Wikipedia, there are 21 known television shows that clearly express the epidemic of teenage pregnancy but not in a positive way. Some of these reality shows such as “Teen Mom 1, 2, and, 3”, “16 and Pregnant”, “Too Young To Be a Dad”, and “The Secret Life of an American Teenager” seem to make it acceptable for teenagers to be get pregnant and start a family. In reality, this is completely unacceptable.
+
Teenagers should not be getting pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant. Not only does it put the mother and father at a high stress rate for the rest of their lives, but it affects the family as well. The families of both parties are now also involved with the wrongdoings of the teenagers and are also partially responsible for the child. For the rest of their lives they are going to have to take care of a human being, all because these two teenagers thought it would be a good idea to start a family based on the television shows that they had been watching. Eventually they will realize that they have made a terrible mistake and want to change the outcome. Too bad this isn’t something that can be reversed. This decision they have made is permanent.
+
Going back to the thought of “it would be nice to start a family at this age” teenagers have not yet realized that this is not a perfect world and nothing lasts forever. The actors and actresses on television may make it seem like a perfect world with their happy family, nice house, and good jobs but in reality this process is a lot more complicated than it is portrayed to be. Typically relationships do not last forever, and most relationships that have a child involved at a young age will not last, especially if they are not married. Having a family is not all it is portrayed to be either. After the couple comes home from the hospital they now have to deal with a baby that needs to be fed regularly, cries constantly, and needs its diaper changed multiple times per day. This baby becomes this couple’s first priority whether they choose to accept it or not because this child cannot take care of itself.
+
Another downside to having a child as a teenager is that the parents, primarily the mother, may start to slip in school. On top of getting an education, doing their homework, and trying to stay in touch with friends and family they now have this “nuisance” to deal with. Most teenagers have a goal in life at this time, but with having a child this goal or dream becomes significantly harder to accomplish. High school is one thing to try and cope with while a child is present, but as that child gets older and the parents are getting into their college years this becomes a lot more difficult. In high school, it is possible to pass with a C average because it still allows that person to graduate. In college the quality of work will increase and standards will be raised, making the situation harder for an average student, let alone someone who is expecting or has a child to care for.
+
Some teenagers also get a glorified picture of life based on what they witness on television. What person would really strive to have a life broadcasted on television like that? It shows the world that that individual got pregnant and made one of the biggest mistakes of their life that could have been prevented. It is more embarrassing than a pleasure. It is also very selfish, using a baby to make yourself known. Even if these people did get famous, who would want to be known as that girl/guy on television that got pregnant on a television show? It is not something that an individual should be proud of. Accomplishing a lifelong goal that impacts the future in a positive way is something to be proud of, and getting pregnant at a young age is not along those lines.
+
There are minimal solutions to this problem. One of them is to eliminate the sources of the entertainment industry that support teenage pregnancy. Showing these types of things on television is the reason why this is happening. Millions of people look up to those that are famous or on television, and a couple on television that is having a child is not something that kids or teenagers should be looking up to. They should be looking up to those who have driven this country in the right direction, not those who have made mistakes and their lives are making the entertainment industry’s money.
+
Another solution to this problem would be the parenting skills of these children. Even though these television shows have been on air, parents need to enforce to their children that sex will lead to cases like these and to stay away from it until they are stable part of their life with a significant other and can afford to have a child. Parents now are so young and inexperienced that they forget to enforce the simple things like bad words, and behavior. Bad behavior such as sex will lead to babies, because that is what sex is supposed to do, just not for those who are young and have their whole lives to live.
+
Unfortunately this is not as easy as it sounds. The entertainment industries have made so much money off of these shows to just get rid of them now, so the idea of eliminating them is not going to happen without a fight. Even though these shows will not be omitted from television, people can still refuse to watch them. If enough people stop watching them, then they will be taken off of the air just like all the old television shows that have become old and used up. Television shows will find something else to play on air. As for parenting, if people just increase their concern for their child’s future and stress these issues and prevent them from seeing these things on television, the problem will slowly cease. It is going to take a while because of how prominent this problem has become, but eventually the problem will take care of itself and come to an end. People just need to realize that it is there and to take action against it.
+ i>Next Page +The world has gone through drastic changes in its lifetime with the most current and prevalent one being the acceptance of teenage pregnancy. Looking back at people in the twentieth century they understood things completely differently than how people see things now. Girls that shopped in the maternity section of stores were looked down upon and now it is almost normal to see young girls shopping there. It comes down to how Americans have went about advertising their products, their perception of a perfect life, and the television shows that have all of these ideas incorporated in them. It is not healthy for the parents, family, friends, or the development of the next generation to keep showing these types of programs on a device that is used every single day for most people. Action needs to be taken in parenting and in the entertainment industry to make this problem come to an end.

+“Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself.” At some point in everyone’s life there is a time where they are scared of something, whether this may be an object, a person, a thought, or just the fear of failure depends on the individual. With that being said, each person also handles their fears differently: some need the help of others while another group of people may cope with them on their own and challenge their fears to try and get rid of them. Fear has several ways of representing itself as well, this can occur by internal or external thoughts and this also depends on that individual and the fear itself.
+When I was a kid I was exposed to a lot of hunting weapons including knives and guns because a lot of people in my family enjoyed going big game hunting. I was never scared of knives or pointy objects until I encountered my first visit to the doctor’s office. My mom had made the appointment for me to get my yearly physical, which at the time I thought was no big deal, especially since all my friends had told me that you get a lollipop after the office visit. I got out of school early that day so I could go to my appointment; when I arrived is when everything started to founder. I walked in, my hands are shaking, I started to sweat, and this was all because of the word that the nurse had said, “shots”. Although I was never scared of sharp pointed objects before, the fear of being stabbed with something so jagged went through my whole body. As I walked into the observation room my symptoms started to gradually get worse. The amount of sweat that was being produced was insane because staring at me from the other side of the room were two needles. The nurse walked into the room and from the minute she saw me knew exactly what was going on. She talked to me for a few minutes about school and friends and then I remember that she grabbed the needles and set them next to me. Just as I was starting to calm down, all my nerves shot back up and I was right back where I started, a nervous wreck. She tried to explain to me that these were not going to hurt and of course being a stubborn little kid, I didn’t listen. She told me that if I turned my head away from the needles she would show me that it really doesn’t hurt without actually administering the shot. I listened and as I did this I felt a pinch and she told me that’s all it would feel like. As soon as I turned around both needles were empty and a sigh of relief left my mouth. If it was not for that caring nurse, I would probably still be petrified of needles.
+
From that moment on, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I may have been young but after that experience, I knew that becoming a nurse would not only be a good thing for my future but I would be able to be that person that helps people get through the tough times in their life when they need someone the most. Having to cope with the fact that you may be dying, scared of a procedure, or just needing someone to hold your hand while you get an immunization is the reason why I wish to help people. Being exposed to such a wonderful nurse at such a young age is the reason I want to continue and be the best nurse that I can be.
+
In my senior year of high school I got a volunteer opportunity at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in the Emergency Medicine Department on the midnight shift; I jumped on the opportunity to go and see nurses and follow them first hand. This activity lasted about 8 months and every weekend I would go into work with my mom and follow the nurses around to see what I was getting myself into. Throughout this experience I learned how to do almost every procedure on a patient that a registered nurse does in the emergency room, and even go do some of the procedures under supervised conditions. I became fascinated with needles. There are so many different sizes, colors, and techniques to every needle and with each one, there is a different way they are used. Some are for people with tough skin, others for people that have very thin skin, and some of them are used to administer different kinds of medicine. It is crazy to think that one little needle can be used in so many different ways, but what astonished me more was the fact that all these nurses knew what kind to use and why to use it. They would show me how to use them and have me practice using them on oranges in order to really understand the concept behind each one.
+
Not only did the needles interest me, but so did the preparation of the procedure as well. There were so many steps in getting it all right, even though it did not always work one hundred percent of the time. One of the nurses gave me a tourniquet to try and put on and it wasn’t easy; I couldn’t believe how difficult and time consuming some of the simplest looking steps were. They always made everything look so easy when in reality, it is the complete opposite of what it all seems. By the end of my time there, my knowledge increased twenty times more than it was before, especially because when I started I thought that all needles were the same and in reality they are all different.
+
To think that my whole preparation for my career started from a visit to the doctor’s office is impeccable. I was once a scared child who feared anything that had to do with medicine or a hospital of any kind to someone whole will potentially work in one in the near future. There are certain people in life who believe in making a difference, not only nurses but those who help others daily: teachers, counselors, or even the average person on the street. I want to be one of those people that strive to do the best in life, but on a medical standard. Helping kids, adults, families, and others by just being there after they get the news from the doctor or other care giver would make my life one worth living.
blah, blah, blah...
+The issue that we used in our project was that of Gun Control. This project made me understand that people are very bitter and serious about this situation. My personal views got in the way with this project quite a bit because I am very outspoken about them so doing research on the topic was not the easiest thing to do. The organization process was not that hard, other than deciding what goes where in the video. One other problem was finding a time where all of us could meet, especially with finals week coming up. Our schedules are completely different and it was extremely difficult to meet, but we made it happen.
+
Our group thought that it would be a good idea to use a social issue this way the audience could take part in the project as well and be able to think about the issue as a whole after seeing other people’s opinions. The most challenging part of the project was finding information that was not too vulgar, but at the same time true. Since this project is on gun control a lot of the information can stun some people and we wanted the topic to go over as smoothly as possible. YouTube was an excellent source for all of our videos but as for our facts and statistics, we used one website in particular to gather the information from. It was a simple website with practical information on gun control. The least beneficial websites for this project were those that took the situation in an indifferent approach. This was because they didn’t declare appropriate information; it was not practical and we could tell that it was something that could be questioned.

Our group for the most part was very easy to get ahold of, and very responsive as well. We created a group chat on our phones the first day we got into a group this way we could talk about the project when we needed efficiently. Although it was difficult to meet at times we made it work and were able to work efficiently to get the task at hand completed. Working in groups for this project was very beneficial because it takes teamwork to put a video together. It also helps because some people are better at the technology based aspects of learning than others, so making the video, at least for me would have been extremely difficult. I am really glad that we had groups for this project.
+
The game plan that we had for the project did change quite a bit but overall we had a generalized idea of what we wanted to do from the beginning. We all agreed on what went into the video and we all contributed information, which was also beneficial so not just one or two of us was doing all the work. If we had more time on the project I am sure that the effects would have been more extreme instead of the basics that the software we used offered. More audio would have been added and the quality of the video as a whole may have been slightly better.
+
The objective of our designs was to make it eerie and slightly dark because of the topic at hand. Using black backgrounds would show the darkness and despair of guns. Guns have the potential to take the lives of people so black would be a good color to show and respect those that have passed. We made our decisions based on the group and the respect for our audience. We tried not to incorporate videos that could be offensive or scolding to others.
+
Overall the project was a success by everyone in the group and the participation and cooperation was significant. Everyone put in the time that was needed to make the project as smooth as it could be. I enjoyed working with the members in my group.

+In this research paper you fill find the out what it really takes to be a nurse. The concepts of nursing school will be discussed along with tips and guidelines for school. It will also talk about the communication, reading, writing, and technology skills each nurse must have in order to succeed. Two sources will be prominent along with two interviews from registered nurses.

Many jobs in the medical field are at a high demand in the United State right now. It is assumed that for every one doctor seven nurses are needed to fulfill all the patient’s needs within the hospital. This is the reason why the demand for nurses is growing. According to usnews.com there is supposed to be a twenty-six percent employment growth increase by the year 2020. Although the demand for nursing is significantly high, it is becoming more difficult for students to become nurses. The amount of knowledge that these students have to obtain to get into nursing school and pass the standardized nursing exam, NCLEX, is extraordinary. Eligibility for the exam is determined by the NCLEX board of nursing and is different for all individuals. The passing rate for the exam is also in a safe zone but that does not mean that everyone who takes it will pass. The questions given in this exam have more than one right answer; every question is a trick question where one answer is better than the other.
+Prior to the NCLEX, there is nursing school and prior to that there is the pre-requisites that need to be taken before being admitted to the college of nursing. Every college is different but the course material for being a nurse is the same. Everything learned up to the point of nursing school is based upon science and human development classes upon entering nursing school you then take all of the information provided from the previous classes and adapt them to the actual nursing classes.

Looking at this more in depth, students looking to get their degree in Bachelors in Science and Nursing from Michigan State University, would have to take a required number of science classes that prepare them for the college of nursing at that institute. These students are required to take in chronological order Chemistry 141 (general chemistry) their first semester at Michigan State University, Biology 161 (general biology), Anatomy 350 (special class dedicated to prospective nursing students) at the same time during the second semester, Physiology 250, Organic Chemistry 143 the third semester, Microbiology 201, and Pathophysiology 300 during the fourth semester. This is a total of seven science classes that they have to take within two years of their degree. On top of these science classes they also have to take electives and university credits. This schedule is very complicated and extremely time consuming. These classes are rumored as “weaning out classes” for those who cannot handle the pressure that goes on in the future schooling for this degree. This schedule is made for those that can cope well under pressure at times when time is of the essence. Many people that sign up for this discipline at Michigan State University are very unaware of the situation that they are going to endure, but there are few people that know the amount of pressure that they are going to be under either because they have been informed or learned about it on their own.
+
After pre-nursing school the students then go to the college of nursing to fulfill their hope of getting a Bachelors in Science and Nursing. In this advanced stage of the schooling, students are going to class, and also going to nearby hospitals to take classes. These classes are called clinicals. They take place in hospitals and test the student’s ability on basic and critical care of patients, where they perform procedures and work with the machines that Registered Nurses use in hospitals now. Specifically, at Michigan State University, these nurses travel to various hospitals ranging from those in East Lansing, all the way to downtown Detroit, Michigan. On top of these classes being a distance away from campus, they can also be at various times throughout the day on any day of the week. This can also be very stressful for nursing students in the sense that it may potentially be a far distance from campus and the times could interfere with other activities.

An interview was taken place recently; in this interview a nurse was asked several questions about school and his career. Emmanuel Tolentino has been a nurse for two years and currently works at Henry Ford Main Campus in Detroit, Michigan as an emergency department nurse; he is a Wayne State University nursing graduate. What advice would you give to nursing students? “Nursing is a great career choice. You must have realistic expectations and work from the bottom up, but eventually you will be in the area you want and be proficient at what you do. Also, remember that anyone can perform the tasks. What differentiates you is that you must possess the critical thinking skills to make decisions in terms of patients care. Lastly, there are three rules. 1.) Safety (for yourself and your patients) 2.) Control your environment 3.) Be an advocate for your patient.” This advice is crucial in every setting whether it is clinical, or after the student graduates. How did you handle the stress as a nursing student? “By ensuring I spent just as much time decompressing as I did studying. This would include doing things I enjoy such as hanging out with friends, watching movies, or other hobbies. Something that could separate you from thinking about school.” Many students in the nursing program tend to over study at times which can actually cause problems within the subject. Over studying tends to cause the brain to go on overload and start deleting the information that it has previously retained. His advice should be taken into account for students and to replace what he did with what the student enjoys to do. In this interview Emmanuel gives distinct advice mainly to those who are nursing students, but also to new nurses that are undergoing stress as well.

On top of being able to endure immense amounts of pressure, students must have communication skills that are required in order to succeed when they are enrolled in nursing courses. This major is well organized so students can ask for help from their teaching assistants, professors, tutors, or other students that are potential study group partners. Without some of these resources it is very difficult to succeed in this specific discipline. Professors understand that the student is going to have questions on the material that is being taught, which is why they have office hours that they encourage students to take advantage of. If they expected the student to know the material thoroughly then they would not offer the office hours that they have. Study groups are an essential part of college. Many students form study groups within their classes and major so that they can help each other with the material that is expressed in lecture. There may be something that several people do not understand that a few in the group may be able to explain. Students must also be able to ask for tutors when it is needed. Tutors cannot guess what the student is having a problem with so they need to be able to explain their problem to those that are trying to help them.
+In the actual nursing classes, where you start to do patient care, students must have proper communication skills because now they are making conversations with patents, the patient’s family, doctors, other students, and the nurse that is teaching them how to do certain procedures. They have to be able to talk to a patient respectfully when the patient is being belligerent or screaming in pain, because even though that select patient is having an “issue” it is the nurse’s job to try and solve the situation as efficiently as possible without having any issues. It is also disrespectful to the patient if the nurse is not paying full attention to the patient when they are listing their issues. Yes, a lot of people exaggerate things and that is what most people assume, especially when it comes to pain, but if the nurse does not take in consideration that patient is in pain, then it could completely disrupt the diagnosis of that patient. These rules also apply, not only in nursing school, but in the hospital after receiving the degree as well. Every patient needs to be treated with the utmost respect at all times, no matter what the circumstances are.
+
+
The amount of writing during clinicals can be excessive but everything that is written down must be recorded in order to ensure that the patient gets the exact treatment that they need and deserve to make them healthy again. Some examples of these types of writings are triage reports, care plans, and nursing diagnoses. A triage report is usually created when the patient comes into the office or hospital. Nurses will ask the patient why they are coming to the hospital, even if it is evident, their pain scale, which is usually based on a scale of one to ten. The patient is taken to a room and the vitals are tested: heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen intake, respiration rate, and body temperature. All of this information is submitted into the computer and sent to the doctor so he or she can make the primary diagnosis for the select patient. This process is repeated for every patient that is seen.
+Unlike a doctor, a nurse cannot make official diagnoses such as Cardio Vascular Disease, Diabetes, Cancer, or any type of disease for that matter because these are actual medical conditions. Nurses can only make nursing diagnoses which are completely different. These are broader and based on the disease that the doctor thinks the patient has. They list anything they can think of that they patient may get in the future. For example, some nursing diagnoses would be increased risk for infection, skin integrity, disturbed body image, or something along those concepts.
+
A care plan comes after the nurse examines the patient. After meeting with the patient, the nurse will then look up the pathology of their disease and comorbidities. Once they have this piece of information they can start thinking about the problems it will pose for the select patient (the nursing diagnoses). For example, someone with an open wound would have an increased risk for infection. Once the nursing student has identified the main problem(s) they then come up with goals for that patient. The next step of this process are they will have nursing interventions (what the nurse will do to help their patient achieve these goals). Then the nurse will evaluate how well their patient has achieved their goals. These types of reports are crucial to understand and be able to prepare for those in nursing school and nurses who already have their degree.

Communication and writing skills are two of the must haves for those interested in pursuing a career in the field of nursing. Another skill that these people need to obtain is reading. Reading seems like a simple thing to do, but in reality it is not, especially when someone’s life depends on it. For every medicine, treatment, examination, or assessment that a nurse does, they get an order from the doctor that has the patients list of allergies on it. If a nurse does not thoroughly look at this piece of paper and see the allergy list, this patient is now at a high risk of having a severe reaction. Given a situation where a nurse is treating a patient that has a simple migraine and all that patient wants is some pain medication and food, the nurse will put in a request for the doctor to send an order to the nursing station to get these wishes fulfilled. The doctor then approves it and tells the nurse to give the patient what they need and order them food, what this nurse doesn’t know is that their patient is allergic to Tylenol (a pain medication) and peanuts because the nurse did not look at the paper he or she was given when the orders were made like they should have. She then orders them a turkey sandwich, a juice and peanut butter crackers and administers a pill of Tylenol to the patient. This patient is two minutes away from going into shock and having a life threatening reaction, all because of the nurse that didn’t look at the bottom of the page. This is why it is crucial for the nurse to be able to look at things and read them in full. This comes into play when they are administering any medication, looking at the diagnosis, or any other time when reading is an important part of the patient’s health.
+Reading is so much more than being able to read and analyze words on a piece of paper or computer screen. In the medical field there are certain charts and machines that all heath care professionals need to be able to read. One example of this is the machine called an Electro Cardiogram. This machine measures the hearts electrical activity in the body by a series of waves that are traced on to a piece of paper for the doctors and nurses to analyze so they can properly treat the patient to make them more comfortable with their disease. They also need to be able to read charts such as tox-screens, which show toxicity levels in the body; these can include all types of drugs including alcohol that present themselves at an abnormal level inside the body’s blood supply. Without the knowledge of being able to read these types of graphs, a patient would not get the proper treatment.
+
There is one more type of reading that a nurse must be able to use every day that they are on the job and this only gets better with practice. Nurses must be able to read their patients to find out if they need to be monitored, can be left alone, or transferred to another unit. This may come into play if a person seems belligerent, or very uncooperative. A very simple version of this would be if a nurse is assigned a patient and who is asking for pain medication. It is a sad thing to say, but most of the time medical examiners assume that the patient is lying until they see proof that the patient is in pain. This is because of the people that abuse the health system and come in to just get medication for their personal use. The nurses will use the body actions to determine if the patient needs the medication. A more complicated version of this would be when a nurse is assigned a patient who has had a surplus of alcohol that evening and is well over the legal alcohol limit. The nurse has to watch this patient closely so they do not get out of bed, because they can potentially hurt themselves and the others around them. They monitor verbal and physical actions to do this. Some of these patients experience a lot of attention because they can potentially start problems with the staff and other patients. The nurses constantly monitor the patient’s attitude and if they feel at any moment it is getting out of hand, they will put them in a Mental Health Ward until they become sober so they are no longer a threat to the staff or the safety of the patients. This kind of reading is essential in the field of nursing because it is all about the patient’s safety, and that is what everything ends up circling back to. It is a special kind of reading but just like anything else, with practice.

Nurses must have: “The use of modern technology to make health and care services more convenient, accessible and efficient to become widespread.” This information comes from the trade journal titled “Are nurses expected to have information technology skills?” written by Dowding. The concept that nurses need to have proper technology skilled makes sense based on when thinking about the example used in reference to the Electro Cardiogram. Not only do nurses need to be able to read and analyze the results of the machine, but they also need to be able to know how to use it and when to use it in order to get accurate results. The Electro Cardio gram is one of many machines that nurses need to be able to use in a doctor’s office or hospital setting. Another example of technology would be any type of IV pump. In order to use these correctly nurses need to know how to enter the correct amount of medicine to be injected into the person in a given time period. Without this knowledge the patient could be at high risk for toxicities and deficiencies of the medications they are supposed to be receiving.

“It is acknowledged that both the academic and clinical components of nursing programs have the potential to act as stressors for students...” This quote comes from the summary of the scholarly article “Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing” written by Timmins. This article describes the mental health involved with students in nursing school. Stress truly does take effect on those that are exposed to massive amounts in a minimal amount of time. Going through four straight years of indecent amounts of stress can make one person’s health go from completely healthy all the way to an extreme mental stage where they need medical help to return to a healthy state. Not all people have the same results, some people end up with a mental disorder and others have minor problems such as: breakouts, anxiety attacks, or even getting sick. There is also a possibility that these circumstance do not exist in some individuals. Although this does not happen to everyone, it is a possibility to those who enter nursing school.

Along with the interview with Emmanuel, there was a second interview that had taken place, this time with Adam McGruther, a University of Michigan nursing graduate. He also works in the Emergency Department at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI but he is the charge nurse is that department. Over the summer of 2012 he took in a nursing student as an intern and was in charge of teaching her the things she needed to know about the hospital itself and then nursing procedures in general. Over the time that he taught her all of these things he was asked what his favorite part was about teaching interns the aspects of nursing. He responded to this by saying, “Over anything else, the thing I love most about teaching these interns is that it reminds me of when I was a nursing student doing what they are. I understand the pressure and everything that they are going through so it allows me to not only teach them but to build a relationship and help them with their schooling as well.” Just like most nurses, Adam has a caring heart. This is just one of many benefits that this career has. It allows them to build relationships with other nurses, doctors, and their patients. Having a caring heart is the backbone of nursing.
+The discipline of nursing has tons of details that make the career special. In its own way reading, research, communication, technology, and writing have become a more prominent resources than ever before. With every piece of new technology these resources have to adapt and the level of nursing become much more difficult. The overall degree of nursing is a wonderful choice by any person but they have to have the will power to succeed in this industry. There are going to be times when this career becomes overpowering and stressful but like any job, it is something worth fighting for. Nurses truly make a difference in this world.
