Citations for data slices

Follow discussions in RDA community to cope with:

1. how to reference sub-sets of datasets (e.g. Project utilises a given time period/parameter selection of another 3rd party dataset?)
2. user utilises some sub-setting selection to take slices (selected files/subsetting accross files) from multiple datasets

issues about:

1. how to cite underlying datasets

2. assigning credit in the selection process - compare the user making selection, the authors of the tools/services allowing the selection, and the authors of the original data that enter the selection

3. is credit to be given equally for all datasets in such selections?

4. should the selection criteria become a citable object in its own right? i.e. it's a process rather than a dataset per se?
