Base validation failed.

I got this error message. Not sure exactly what it means or how to reproduce unfortunately.

base validation failed: conflict 0 is missing base chunk (base display strategy requires exact base for all conflicts).

All I did was git merge, then ec, then select one of the files. Ec crashed with exit code 2 and displayed this message.
