more intelligent backlog replay

it'd be pretty awesome if backlogs were somewhere in between shared and device-independent -- say, maybe you could set it up so that when you connect a device, and you are marked as away on all clients, it starts the replay from when you were marked as away. something like that. or sent the whole backlog, but some sort of marker at that point.
