Cant send messages in all previous chats

Describe the bug
I am new to using this matrix client. I gave it a try and in all the chats and dms I was in before show me "You do not have permission to send a message in this room"

I have confirmed that I can send messages on both cinny (I have never used cinny before, but I wanted to test a new client to confirm its not something weird with syncing), and also element and both worked

Now looking into a random DM I got this:
The permissions tab shows a white screen so I cannot check that but according to the dev info we both have 100 on the power level.

The matrix server is running Conduit 0.10.11

Ive taken a quick look in the code and at least according to here it seems for some reason it thinks I dont have permission to chat

Also note: I joined the official commet group for discussing this and I am able to talk there. Weirdly and quite possibly unrelatedly after joining that group its not on my groups list and can only be accessed through the home "recent activity" menu

Expected behavior
I should just be able to message people

the permissions tab showing a white screen sounds like it's hitting some error when attempting to parse the permissions.

Could you enable developer mode and check for any errors in the logs which show up when opening the permissions page
