This might be a wiring mistake, but my non-plus PicoMemcard disconnects both controllers when plugged into either memory card slot. This happens in the menu and during games (Cool Boarders 4 screenshot as an example.) It does not detach the other memory card, however.
(I'm relatively new to soldering, and had to do it outside in the cold to avoid flux fumes. The connection is.. also iffy.)
