I have two UniFi U7 APs but no UniFi Gateway hardware. I’m using an Edgerouter.
UniFi OS server is running in docker on a Synology NAS. I successfully created the API key and got the menu bar app set up, specifying the NAS IP address and port.
The issue is that when my Mac is connected over an ethernet cable (via a thunderbolt dock) the menu bar app does not work. It gives a cannot connect error.
However, if I disconnect the dock, so that the Mac is now connected to the network only over Wi-Fi, it works fine. Except it shows that there’s no Internet connection, which I guess is to be expected without a UniFi gateway.
To be clear, both the APs and the ethernet are connected to the same network as the NAS that host UniFi OS/UniFi network. So as far as IP packets are concerned, they should be the same thing. What I presume is happening is that the wired IP address does not appear in UniFi Network because it is not through one of the APs, so it only shows up in the Edgerouter DHCP. So I think the solution would be to have the menu bar app only check for Mac Wi-Fi network IP’s and not thunderbolt or others.
