RS2.0 Load Schema returns error 16.

Attempting to call rs.loadSchema in the RS2.0 branch leads to an unspecified error 16. This occurs with or without a json file present.

Which build of d3 are you on? There have been some changes made in the pre-release build of r25.0, so if you are on mismatching versions you will get errors.
