Outdated bundled docker compose?

I have installed docker-ce on Linux Mint 22:

However, the bundled "docker compose" seems out-of-date:

$ docker compose version
Docker Compose version v2.10.2

I had expected >= v2.32.2, due to https://docs.docker.com/engine/release-notes/27/#2750

Are you sure it's a bundled docker compose? You might have installed it to ~/.docker/cli-plugins/docker-compose yourself.

On my Debian Bullseye system, apt-cache showpkg docker-compose-plugin does show recent versions of Docker Compose.

While docker compose is a separate package (docker-compose-plugin) in our package repository, packages are built and published together with (patch) releases of docker engine and docker cli; this means that a new release of compose will ship with the first (patch) release of docker engine after that release.

Packages of compose are currently at 2.33.0 in the package repository for Ubuntu Noble; https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/dists/noble/pool/stable/amd64/

And 2.33.1 of compose (#1168) will ship with a patch release of docker engine (v28.0.1), which likely will be done later this week.

As it's a separate package, it's possible to downgrade the package to an older version (if there's a regression), or to manually install a version of compose and install in your home-directory (a path with a higher priority than the system-wide installed version), but those versions won't be updated automatically, so either would have to be upgraded manually, or removed once the system-wide (installed through .deb) version is updated.
