Python and Rust support

Hi there, I came along this project at the IRMMWTHz in Montréal.
My name is Linus and I'm a PhD student working with THz TDS at the University of Bern in Switzerland.
I was wondering what the status is on the python support for this? I'd be happy to help out/contribute.

Hi Linus, thanks for getting in touch and for stopping by at the poster. Python support is definitely high on the list for us to add in future.

The Adelaide group has offered to look into coming up with a Python version of CaTx to convert raw data into the .thz format and our colleagues in Leeds are exploring whether they might even be able to contribute a LabView VI for saving raw data directly into the .thz format.

We will also try and provide a few simple scripts that can be used as a starting point to read data from the .thz files in Python. It should be really straightforward though and maybe you could experiment with it following the steps outlined e.g. here. If you are keen to give it a go it would be brilliant if you could share some sample scripts on our repository to help others on their way.

I'm planning on creating a python and rust library. Let me know if I should keep the repository separate or if it could also be integrated in this GitHub repo here?

Rust crate will be called dotthz-rs and the the Python library probably pydotThz? (open for inputs for the naming convention)

pydotthz and dotthz-rs are ready to use. If you want, we can migrate them into this project, let me know.

I'm a student in Axel's group, currently working on translating our tools fully from MATLAB to Python. Part of this process will be the creation of a standalone package of functions for THz processing. The GUI will then sit on top of that, or people could import the package or use it from the command line depending on their requirements.

I think the best path forwards would be to merge your pydotthz with that when it's ready, and I will proceed with writing the package on that basis. I'll keep you updated on that front, if you have any input feel free to share.

Thanks for your response! That sounds really cool! My package is already on pip: pydotthz

you can install it like this:

pip install pydotthz

I'm happy to adapt it further, based on your inputs and then merging it with your application.
