Add or fix feature to specify custom .xcompose file location for fully portable use

Allow specifying custom location for `.xcompose` as requested in outstanding issue from original project: samhocevar/wincompose#491
I'm hoping we can create or fix this feature. Reviewing the documentation I don't see this feature mentioned but the referenced issue implies that it may exist but not be working currently.
