I'm simulating the evolution of a twisted ribbon which develops folds that occasionally enter contact with eachother. I was wondering if there is a way to take care of auto-contact and avoid self-penetration.

I am also interested to know if an interaction potential can be easily added in the total energy to study problem of adhesion and role of auto-contact of membranes packed in a small volume.
