It is mentioned that "the file requires all columns" in the guide.

• Is it possible to set certain values, so the model ignores certain columns if their value is missing or unknown?

• Can you provide some link/references/empirical values for the fuel file? I found some in the test case. Are they from other works?

Hi @xiazeyu thanks a lot.

Well, maybe the documentation is a little bit misleading, it uses Rothermel as an example to show how to build such file. @antonio-leblanc could you change a little so it is more clear that it Rothermel is an example.

The thing it that ForeFire is a ROS model solver, the fuel file is very much parameterization, but even it you change the land data you are going to need to change the index in this file. The fuel file is very tightly linked to the landscape file and the ROS model, and we explicitly do not want to have standard parameterization. We do have another Repo explicitly for that :https://github.com/forefireAPI/wildfire_ROS_models, that definitely may be linked to the ForeFire repo if you think it is appropriate... we don't want it to be simpler that it actually is.

Until that, looking and how it is used in the tests cases is the best and intended way of looking into these fuel parameterization.

It is not possible to set default values for columns, may be a good idea, but the way it is coded it will not be faster anyway, but same here, forcing people to define all columns is also making user to think about what it is parameterizing.. Same philosophy as in programming forbidding "IMPLICIT" of loose typing.

It's good to know that ForeFire is a general ROS model.

I undersatnd the ROS_model is a different repo, but it will be awesome if you can link it somewhere to enpower the ForeFire.

I came up with this issue as I saw in the document, the fuel file seems to be tightly coupled. Although in the API reference, I do see there's a lot of models for selection.

Can you explain if different model requires different Fuels File (fuels.csv)? And mention the available models in some noticable place?

Hi all, thanks again for the feedbacks!

Updated the documentation to address the points discussed here:

• Created a new "Fuel & Model Parameterization" page to clarify that ForeFire is a general ROS model solver.
• The new page now lists the primary propagation models (Iso, Rothermel, Balbi) and explains that the fuels.csv file is a specific requirement for models like Rothermel, not a universal one.
• Added a link to the wildfire_ROS_models repository, as suggested, as a resource for fuel parameter sets.
• Updated the parameter reference and other guides to point to this new, clearer explanation.
