SQL version unable to detect local SQL install

I'm running SQL 2019 and after connecting successfully to the server, the tool throws an error when selecting a database. Per support, it appears it's not able to detect the local SQL installation.

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo, Version=14.100.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
