URLTemplateLayer and SphericalEarth

Hi guys. How can SphericalEarth get tiles from a tile server be used via URLTemplateLayer?
Note, our server works just fine with a FlatEarth, but doesn't for SphericalEarth --- the downloader reports missing tiles.
