Lust is a reward signal that is prioritized at a high level and overrides long-term planning, ethical considerations and being aware of the context in which someone finds themselves. Lust generates a situation in which foresight, assessment of the risks and memory of consequences are all suspended and cognitive resources are redirected to the fulfillment of an immediate need

Desire has a legitimate function in bonding and reproducing; however, the current implementation of desire does not have adequate rate limit, scope limit or clean up after the fact and, as such, optimizing for short-term pleasure will happen at the expense of trust, loyalty and the integrity of the system
