How to handle footnotes

I'm interested in using this package to display footnotes, like in GitHub-flavored markdown. What would the best way to approach this be? Ideally you should be able to click on the footnote number in the main text, which would then trigger some action, such as scrolling to the corresponding footnote at the bottom of the text.
