the handheld abbreviations work ok, but break on things like "hydrol." because sometimes that's hydrological and sometimes it's "hydrology" and there is no way to know.

^^that said, as long as we aren't removing citations because of this, it's possible that citationSearch does fine? I will talk with Arthur about this. to the extent there's a title match, for instance, I think we can be pretty robust to minor journal differences depending on how the string search works
