RFE: Create a vX.Y.Z tag and initialize this repo as a Go module

I recently discovered this package and found it useful.

Would you be interested in creating a Go module compatible tag and a go.mod file in this repo? This could be useful to others getting started with Go modules, though admittedly it's not in any way required.
