Idea: passive income for mcp-chrome via contextual adsΒ #310

Hey @hangwin πŸ‘‹

I've been using mcp-chrome to power AI agent browsing workflows β€” the extension approach is genuinely clever (no native deps, just a Chrome extension + SSE). 10k stars in a few months is well-deserved.

I wanted to float an idea that might be interesting:

When AI agents browse via mcp-chrome, they're performing high-intent tasks β€” researching developer tools, shopping, reading docs, comparing products. That browsing context is exactly what advertisers target in traditional web ads, but it's completely untapped in the MCP world.

I'm building agentic-ads β€” an ad network specifically for MCP servers. The idea: you add ~5 lines to your tool handlers, and a contextually relevant ad can optionally appear alongside tool responses. Publishers keep 70% of ad revenue.

For mcp-chrome specifically, the integration could work like this:

  • User asks AI to "research JavaScript frameworks"
  • mcp-chrome fetches pages as usual
  • Response includes content + optional ad: "[Sponsored] Vite v6 β€” Try the new Lightning CSS integration"

No friction for the user (they can ignore it), passive income for you.

I'm not trying to sell you anything β€” I'm looking for early integrators to validate whether this makes sense in practice. Would this be interesting at all? Happy to set up a demo or just answer questions.
