Apple Watch widget missing instuctions or bug #4606

Description

@tamet83

iOS device model, version and app version
Apple Watch Series 9
WhatchOS 26.4

Model Name:
App version: 2026.4.1

Home Assistant Core Version
2026.4.4

Describe the bug
I don't understand how to setup Widget on WhatchOS.
Official documentation does not provide any information about widget.

To Reproduce

  1. On my iPhone I opened the Home Assistant app → Settings → Apple Watch → Configuration and added my script to the list of available items.
  2. On the watch I swipe up to open the widgets screen, tap “Add Widget”, find the Home Assistant app and select the “Scripts” widget.
  3. The widget appears but shows the label “Choose script” (or similar). I cannot select which script the widget should use. Tapping the widget or trying to configure it on the watch does nothing. Other entity types behave similarly.
  4. Despite this, I can still run the same script by opening the Home Assistant app on the watch (so the script itself works).

Expected behavior

  • Expected: be able to pick a specific script (or other entity) for the widget so it displays and triggers that script directly.
  • Actual: widget shows “Choose script” and there is no way to select the target entity from the watch UI.

Additional context

  1. Is there an extra step I miss to bind a script (or another entity) to the watch widget?
  2. Are widgets on watchOS 26 handled differently (complications vs widgets) and Home Assistant requires a specific method?
  3. Are there known bugs or known minimum versions of iOS/watchOS / companion app for this to work?
  4. If anyone has screenshots of a working widget configuration or exact step-by-step instructions, that would be very helpful.
