You mean on scripts like pf-server-terminate don't you, rather than first starting a server (which already supports that).

I think that this is going to be better done by having a file on the server that can be queried about the server state (i.e. the roles that have been added) and in stead of searching for a server, we should just try to connect to it and work out where it is and what's been done to it from that.

I think the original request is actually about trying to specify the availability zone for a server to start in -- that's definitely something we need to be able to support.
