Queries on Ubuntu build on Xilinx MPSoC boards

Hi all,

I am looking for ISAR for building custom Ubuntu images on Xilinx MPSoC boards.

I have few doubts.

1. I see that there is support for Ubuntu including rootfs. Can you please tell whether this means it will have support for snap as well?
2. Will there be legal issues if we use ISAR to build Ubuntu images? Any licensing issues?

Ubuntu support is technically there, you should find several examples in-tree.

Legally, isar puts no blockers on you, see https://github.com/ilbers/isar/blob/master/LICENSE. But you should check with your Canonical contract and/or your legal advisors before redistributing a customized Ubuntu. This has nothing to do with isar, though.

Thanks for the prompt response. Can you please let me know if there are any branches/distributions of ISAR that I can use to compile on Ubuntu instead of Debian? Thanks in advance.

Hi, you can just use the master branch. In Supported_Configurations.md you can find which Ubuntu versions are currently supported, and from which commit they are supported.

I am sorry if my question was misunderstood. I want to know whether ubuntu can be used as host for compiling ISAR?

I missread the question. I havn't personally checked that. I would recommand to try the kas-based approach: https://github.com/ilbers/isar/blob/master/kas/README.md
It will start docker and the build will be done inside the container.
