How to adopt RFC 9945 for IAB Lists #88

Description

@dhruvdhody

Context

At IETF 125 (Shenzhen), the IAB discussed adopting RFC 9945 (IETF Community Moderation) for IAB mailing lists. This issue tracks this.

Proposal

  • Use the RFC 9945 moderation framework for IAB
  • Designated IAB moderators (or leads) act as RFC 9945 “Administrators”
  • Reuse existing moderation team/process
  • Apply consistently across all IAB lists (iab@, arch-discuss@, program, workshop...)

Note

  • RFC 9945 only takes effect after IESG approval of procedures (Section 4)
  • Timeline for this is uncertain (likely months) → till that time status quo

Issue

How to handle appeal chain
RFC 9945 appeal chain (Responsible AD→IESG→IAB) does not map cleanly to IAB. Options:

  • IAB Chair → IAB → ISOC BoT
  • IAB Chair → IESG → IAB → ISOC BoT
  • Variants (TBD)
