Automatic detection of LaTeX binaries does not check AppData

I encounter the following error when installing the package and running Illustrator 2024 (v 28.7.3) :
"process 'pdflatex -version' could not be created! Got error: The system cannot find the file specified."

I properly copied the user interface folder and plugin file in the proper directories mentioned in the installation instructions.

Thanks for reporting this @cmetzger0. What happens after you click OK here? Does Illustrator start normally? If so, go to the LaTeX2AI settings and specify the Folder with LaTeX executables. Depending on your LaTeX installation this should be something like C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin.

Thank you @isteinbrecher for getting back to me! Not sure exactly what was wrong, but I reinstalled Illustrator and this solved part of the problem. It would still throw the same error at startup (actually the same error panel would pop up two more times after clicking OK), but at least Illustrator would start with the four buttons of the LaTeX2AI package added to the main toolbar. I updated the Folder with LaTeX executables in the LaTeX2AI settings with the path to my MiKTeX compiler, restarted Illustrator but the same error would still show up. I tried using TeX Live instead, but no luck either. I noticed that my MiXTeX 24.1 binaries were installed in AppData and not the usual Program Files. Resinstalling it there instead and specifying C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\miktex\bin\x64 as the Folder with LaTeX executables solved the problem. No more error at startup and I'm able to generate LaTeX labels. The package works great. Thank you very much!!

Thank you for reporting this in such detail @cmetzger0 ! Indeed the automatic detection of the paths in LaTeX2AI is not always the most stable part. I am glad that you got it to work. It makes sense that the binaries in the AppData were not found, since this directory is not used in the automatic detection. I will add it in the future. To keep track of that I would leave this issue open and close it once that feature is merged to LaTeX2AI.
