LaTeX2AI not working with pdf files

Hope you are doing well!
thanks for the tool firstly, it is very useful when I prepare the charts in the pdf document. below is my observations on this issue.
my setup is AI2025+ LaTeX2AI v1.0.3 + doc1.pdf and doc2.pdf in same folder.

1. when I edit "doc1.pdf", there is one folder named "links" in the same path with "doc1.pdf" and all the latex equation or text located in this folder with prefix "doc1_LaTeX2AI_xxxxx.pdf" , "xxx" means some random chars, so far so good.

2. when I open another pdf like "doc2.pdf" and keep 1st pdf opened as well, there is no "doc1_LaTeX2AI_xxxxx.pdf" in the "links" folder and only "doc2_LaTeX2AI_xxxxx.pdf", then the tool report "Some files are missing or modified in the Links panel. Would you like to update them now?" for "doc1.pdf".

the root cause is the plug in did not keep all the generated "docx_LaTeX2AI_xxxxx.pdf" files for multiple opened pdf in AI. could you add fix to keep all the files, once the pdf file closed in AI, then the plugin remove those auxiliary files then resolved issue as above? thanks a lot.

Thanks for reporting this @rfhamz . I think the issue is that your files have the extension .pdf LaTeX2AI expects the extension to be .ai otherwise this error occurs. Can you try if that fixes your problem.

Related note, it is generally advisable to use .ai files in Illustrator, as pure .pdf files don't support all the features available in Illustrator.

thanks for you quick response for this issue, after I changed the two files format to .ai, the issue gone, so that's the root cause.

Thanks for reporting! I will leave this issue open until a proper warning is added if PDF files are used.
