Tape emulation from wav seems to have gone non-functional at some point between 1.2.9.2 and current master/head.
I have regularly used plus4emu's tape emulation, which used to work perfectly from mono 8-bit wav files of more or less arbitrary sampling rates (I was happy to use it for testing, for example, at fs=clk/8). Currently, stock 44.1kHz mono 8-bit wav files that contain valid data (i.e. work perfectly in 1.2.9.2) basically don't load. Saving to valid mono 8-bit 44.1 wav files ends up writing garbage plus zeroing the wav header.
