Sessions and cookies

I'm not sure about how nitrogen handles sessions. It seems to set a session timeout of 20 minutes, although chrome shows it as having an invalid cookie date (possibly due to mochi). No other site uses a session timeout of 20 minutes. The cookie is also reset with a different timestamp encoded on every request. Why?
