How does one change the enabled/disabled status of a menu item?

You can disable an item by setting its callback function to None, and likewise enable it by setting its callback to a defined function, e.g:

class Example(rumps.App):
  def __init__(self):
    super(Example, self).__init__("Example")
    self.menu = ["First", "Second"]

  @rumps.clicked("First")
  def handleFirst(self, sender):
    item = self.menu["Second"]
    if item.callback:
      item.set_callback(None)
    else:
      item.set_callback(self.handleSecond)

  @rumps.clicked("Second")
  def handleSecond(self, _):
    rumps.notification(title="Example", subtitle="Testing...", message="Second item clicked")

if __name__ == "__main__":
  Example().run()

Both the First and Second menu items start out enabled. Clicking First will disable Second until you click First again.
