Cannot install

I cloned your repo as .vim, try to run vim like this: vim +PlugInstall +qa and get this error
Error detected while processing command line: E492: Not an editor command: PlugInstall

Sorry about the late reply, did not see this before now. It probably has to do with ~/.vim/autoload/ not being autoloaded on your system for some reason. There are some suggestions online if you google a bit, there should probably be some info in the VimPlug documentation already.

I'm not really a vim expert, and this repo is not very well maintained currently. I have mostly switched to using Spacemacs. However, i guess this could still work as a starting point or reference for new users, simply because it's a bit easier to navigate and understand than many other configs. But it's not as polished as the more popular ones.

If you're willing to try emacs (configured to behave like vim), i'd recommend taking a look at Spacemacs.
