[Feature request] make it possible to use older version of makemkv

You can use an older version of the Docker image that implements the MakeMKV version you need.

But that would not include your stability fixes to the container and tiger vnc and other components, right? :)

Correct. But this is an easy temporary solution until problems get fixed in MakeMKV.

I have not used makemkv for many years, but just considered to import some of my old hddvd media.

I can confirm current makemkv still has problems extracting videos (like here)

What seems to work for me is to use latest version (installed via Arch AUR) and replace the /usr/bin/makemkvcon binary with the old 1.17.6 version (rip done in a few minutes :)).

While ripping I found your project and I'd like to suggest that it might work to bind mount a local copy of the old makemkvcon into the container.

I have not tried this, but something like

      - type: bind
        source: ./makemkvcon-1.17.6
        target: /usr/local/bin/makemkvcon

might work (?), hoping that makemkv "prefers" the makemkvcon binary in /usr/local PREFIX, so no other changes would have to be done to support old versions.

Likely I will try this soon (I'll report back if so), but unsure when I'll find the time.

gave it a quick try:

I used the 64 bit binary from the old 1.7.6 archive (https://makemkv.com/download/old/)

it bind mounted correctly, but the binary is not binary compatible with the docker os:

docker makemkvcon:

file /opt/makemkv/bin/makemkvcon 
/opt/makemkv/bin/makemkvcon: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /opt/makemkv/lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, BuildID[xxHash]=20b8d282fa0c660b, stripped

vs the bindmounted binary:

/tmp # file /usr/local/bin/makemkvcon 
/usr/local/bin/makemkvcon: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, BuildID[xxHash]=c9ab7184035b71af, stripped

so can't tell if this would override the bundled binary.

makemkvcon is (still?) closed source, isn't it?
might work to extract the old "ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64" binary from an older image if there is no other source.
