Hi, my goal is to make exact copies of my games for preservation.
I own 1.44mb and 720k floppies, IBM PC, with a Panasonic JU-256A798P drive and use FluxMyFluffyFloppy GUI v5.2.4 with Greaseweazle v1.22
I watched several tutorials/howtos and Youtube videos but I'm getting very different informations.
Should I use SCP, RAW or both formats ?
Should I specify the RPM ? (always 300 in my case ?) with or without specifying the format ?
I saw in the Yann Serra tutorial that I could tick the RAW option and specify the type with Internal/ibm.720/1440 to enable error checking when reading the disk, is that the best option ? If so is there a difference between making a .scp with the RAW option and .raw with the RAW option ?
About the format, there's 2 different settings : "--format ibm.720" and "::disktype=ibmpc-720k", what's the difference ?
Is it a good practice to read all cylinders the drive can read ? When I select ibm.720/1440, I always get 80 tracks (0-79, 160 .raw files), but I beleive my drive can go up to 82 (0-81), but when selecting ibm.1440 I get an error message when specifying 0-81 as "out of range for this format" and when removing the format, I always see cylinders 80 and 81 in red with HxCFloppyEmulator.
Pretty much all backups on Internet Archive have 84 tracks with the mention "83.0 : MFM: unformatted
83.1 : MFM: unformatted", is that necessary in some scenarios like copy protected games ?
In other words, whats the best command I should use ? There's a few examples below, but is there something better or something I'm missing ?
"E:\greaseweazle-1.22\gw.exe" read --format ibm.720 --tracks=c=0-83 --raw --adjust-speed=300 "E:\Backup\disk01.scp::disktype=ibmpc-720k"
"E:\greaseweazle-1.22\gw.exe" read --raw "E:\Backup\disk01.scp::disktype=ibmpc-720k"
"E:\greaseweazle-1.22\gw.exe" read --raw "E:\Backup\disk01.scp"
"E:\greaseweazle-1.22\gw.exe" read --format ibm.720 --raw "E:\Backup\disk01.scp"
Thanks very much for the help !
