Use of 'deprecated' in PROGRESS routines

There are various instances of call to functions with names ending with "deprecatded". See for instance:

call bml_add_deprecated(0.50_dp, aux_bml, -1.00_dp, rho_bml, threshold)

It is confusing to me. Should they be replaced by other (newer) functions?
