Summary

SparkyLinux is a lightweight, fast, and customizable GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian. It offers two flavors: Stable (based on Debian Stable, with defined support windows) and Semi-Rolling (based on Debian Testing, with rolling updates). It ships with multiple desktop environments (Xfce, KDE, LXQt, etc.) and special editions for gaming, multimedia, and system rescue.

Distrowatch rank: 28 (as of 2026-04-21)

Lifecycle Data Source

SparkyLinux stable releases track Debian Stable. The latest stable is Sparky 9 (based on Debian 12 "Bookworm"). The semi-rolling edition tracks Debian Testing ("Forky" as of 2026) and does not have a fixed EOL date.

Official sources:

Machine-readable data:

No endoflife.date entry exists for SparkyLinux as of 2026-04-21. No official machine-readable EOL data is published.

EOL dates can be inferred from Debian Stable lifecycle:

  • https://endoflife.date/api/debian.json — Debian lifecycle (proxy for SparkyLinux stable)
  • SparkyLinux 9 (Debian 12 base): EOL aligned with Debian 12 (~June 2028 for LTS, ~2026 for regular)
  • SparkyLinux semi-rolling: no fixed EOL (tracks Debian Testing)

Notes

  • The stable flavor follows Debian Stable's lifecycle; the semi-rolling flavor follows Debian Testing (no fixed EOL).
  • SparkyLinux stable releases are named numerically (6, 7, 8, 9) and track Debian Stable version numbers.
  • The project is maintained primarily by one developer (Paweł "pavroo" Pijanowski).
  • Special editions (GameOver, Multimedia, Rescue) share the same lifecycle as the corresponding stable/semi-rolling base.
