Description

Summary

MiniOS is a lightweight, Debian Stable-based Linux distribution designed for live boot from USB drives, with optional persistence. It features a modular SquashFS-based architecture, UEFI and legacy BIOS support, and comes in multiple variants: Standard, Toolbox, Ultra, and Flux (ultra-lightweight Fluxbox edition). MiniOS is designed for portability, system recovery, and use on older or low-resource hardware.

Distrowatch rank: 29 (as of 2026-04-21)

Lifecycle Data Source

MiniOS is based on Debian Stable and its lifecycle inherits Debian Stable's support window. The latest release is MiniOS 5.1.1. MiniOS does not publish a standalone EOL schedule.

Official sources:

Machine-readable data:

No endoflife.date entry exists for MiniOS as of 2026-04-21. No official machine-readable EOL data is published.

EOL dates can be inferred from Debian Stable lifecycle:

Notes

  • MiniOS is a relatively small project; lifecycle documentation is minimal.
  • Support is effectively tied to the Debian Stable release the current MiniOS version is based on.
  • MiniOS is primarily a live distribution; the traditional concept of "end of life" (system security updates) is slightly different since users can simply boot a new version from USB.
  • An endoflife.date entry could be proposed upstream if there is sufficient demand.
