Why not use Astyanax?

Seems like an awful lot of work to duplicate w/ Thrift. I realize this project was forked from the Google Code project, but a lot of things could be simplified with Astyanax it seems.

I wanted to add username & password to the connection dialog but I am not familiar w/ the low-level API. Guess I'll have to read up ;-).

Another added benefit is that as new stuff comes out, it'll be much easier to integrate support for it by using Astyanax. Netflix is heavily invested in making Astyanax the go-to Java Cassandra library, and it seems to have been fairly-widely adopted. We use it at the company I work for, it's pretty awesome.

Yes, at the time I considered some simplification with Hector, but decided against it. Updating to match newer api and then adding set/get for any type wasn't too bad; Was nice having the GUI app while learning and building schemas, but haven't used it much lately.
