Ensure that this module can be used as a library

We've been focusing on the CLI aspects of this module, but actually the library should be usable from within other applications without having to resort to running inside a Docker container and such like.

(It may be that this is already straightforward, but this issue will catpure anything that relates to ensuring it is the case.)
