Emulation limitations

Hi Mark,

First I want to congratulate and thank you for this really nice software.

I'm facing an issue trying to emulate QUANTUM / ADIC signatures of Scalar libraries (i2000, i6000, i500 ...).
Indeed, "Scalar ..." seems unable to use as Product Identification (like it would be a reserved keyword not passing the driver implementation) !?

Using "Scalare i2000" is OK !
Using "Saclar i2000" is OK !
but "Scalar i2000" never works ...

If you could handle/manage this, that would be great.

Also I would like to ask, if possible, if you could increase the size of the Unit Serial Number field to 25 chars (changers & tape drives), it is necessary to me to simulate certain type of real VTL being able to go as close as possible as some production environments.

The function to determine the 'emulation' is rather basic. If hard-coded vendor string match fails, the 'default' emulation is what is used.

Mind you, the emulation is really just adjusting the starting slot address of the various elements e.g. (data transfer elements, storage element etc). The STK emulation is a little more involved, but not much. I've found most applications do the 'right thing'. Tape drives on the other hand....

Re: Serial number length
vtllib.h:#define SCSI_SN_LEN 16
By modifying this to the max serial number length you require should be sufficient.

Update SCSI_SN_LEN, recompile and please let me know if anything breaks.

Indeed in your first answer you point the customise_lu void that is relying on product_id not vendor_id ?!

I would also like to know if it is possible to declare more than 10 drives inside a library as I was stucked when trying to add more. Finally, is there a way to manipulate hba id, to emulate multi ports (two or four) ?

Hi Mark,

I've been able to test the new version and indeed it's now Ok to create a Scalar changer but I'm not sure it's really applying the init_scalar_smc() function ?!

Drives serialization (T10) does not seems to be correctly managed and drives serials are either truncated nor not delivered ...

Also, I can't succeed creating more than 32 drives (one or many changers combined), is there a limitation ?

When using systemctl to stop/start/restart services, sometimes things won't stop correctly and leads to issues.

Often the system hangs and needs reboot...

Can I help with anything ?

As you can see, at the very bottom,
the 3 drives are not well discovered, only the first one shows a partial serial (missing last 2 digits)...

This problem does not exist with other types of library, only ADIC or QUANTUM Scalars till now !

Perhaps this is linked to the fact I increased SCSI_SN_LEN as you advise me
(we need to be able to emulate some changers that needs 21 chars serial length).

There is definitely an issue with the 'Data Transfer Element Descriptor' fields with regards to serial numbers longer than 10 chars.
e.g.

Why I chose 10 for the drive serial number is anybody's guess.

The 'Read Element Status' OP code is the 'nightmare from hell'.. I recall it was horrible when I attempted to implement it, and it's even worse looking at what I've hobbled together all these years later.

FWIW: Simply replacing '10' with SCSI_SN_LEN breaks the OP code something horrible (out of bounds - segfaut)..

Looking into a proper fix.
