Copy Dialogue Intersects Over Menu

Bug Description

When a portion of text is highlighted in a note, such that the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue extends to the right part of the screen, an the drop down menu is selected (⋮), the menu is covered by the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue, and some menu items are thereby inaccessible.

In addition, the menu also appears under the blue teardrops that indicate the selection bounds.

Expected Behaviour

Either the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue should be under the menu (as the menu is the most immediate interaction), or the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue (but not the selection) should be cancelled, so as not to block the menu. The selection bound indicators should always appear under the menu.

Thank you for the detailed report.

The "Cut/Copy/Paste" context menu is part of Android itself and apps have no control over this menu, so unfortunately there is not much I can do about this behaviour. It also isn't a solution so clear the selection before opening the overflow menu, some of the commands (e.g. all formatting commands) need the selection to work with.

Don't know what I could recommend to do, turning the phone temporarily to landscape mode or scrolling the note to a better position may alleviate the problem a little bit.

Yep, that's how I've gotten around the issue so far. Unfortunately one can't scroll for the bit at the front; for this I add some temporary new lines.

It's unfortunate there isn't a good way to fix this provided by Android, though I understand your hands are tied here. One solution, perhaps, would be to revise the floating menu idea entirely, and expand the top section or add an expanding side menu instead, which would contain the functions in the menu. (Essentially, the idea is that if you move the text area instead of placing things over it, the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue would perhaps move appropriately.) But I understand how this would obviously be a major rework, and if it was just icons, would impact the learnability of the app. Both of which might mean this is something you don't want to do.

(Also, I note I said the selection shouldn't be cancelled, just the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialogue, anticipating the point you made. I am well aware one needs a selection in order to apply an operation to it. I was hoping there would be some way to do this, but I understand if there isn't.)

Yes, I will leave this issue open and should I pickup an idea how to solve this issue, I will come back.
