YouTube expose controls

Changing quality/playback speed/etc are things I assume a lot of users do and it takes multiple clicks to set them in the dropdown menu.
Why not expose (some of) these right on the page like the volume control rather than hide them in a dropdown?
Also- are there any missing features the video player provides that aren't in the dropdown that could be provided?
