Brainstorming ideas

Wonderful project! This could really help in huge ways with collaborative writing. Some stream of consciousness thoughts:

• I wonder if one way to handle potentially higher costs of scaling it is to use a free database backend, like supabase or neon?
• Maybe users could connect to their own database and then it's on them to cover the costs? Supabase and neon have generous free tiers which should be sufficient for plenty of projects.
• I wonder if there's a way to get the whole thing to run in the browser using wasm?

Thanks. These are good ideas. At the moment things are going well. I think I'll stay in the free tier for a long time. I am planning on adding some minor cost recoup at some point ($5 to download your pdf - suggested donation) or something like that.

If enough people start using it then you might be able to get some of those costs covered by just offering a license for a very cheap price. It can all be voluntary, but if you suggested like $5 for a license it'd be a total steal compared to overleaf.
