Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Got questions about Link Sanitizer? We've got answers!

Q: What is Link Sanitizer?

A: Link Sanitizer is a tool that helps you clean up web links. It removes extra bits called "tracking parameters" that websites use to follow you around the internet.

Q: Why should I use Link Sanitizer?

A: It helps protect your privacy, makes links shorter and easier to share, and gets rid of messy-looking links!

Q: How do I install Link Sanitizer?

A: You can find instructions on our Installation Guide page.

Q: Does Link Sanitizer collect my personal information?

A: No! Link Sanitizer works right on your computer and doesn't send your links to anyone, except when you use the shortener, which uses TinyURL.

Q: What are "tracking parameters"?

A: They're extra bits added to web links that tell websites where you came from or what you clicked on. They often look like ?utm_source=something.

Q: How do I see what tracking parameters were removed?

A: Click the "Tracking Info" button after cleaning a link.

Q: The "Shorten" button isn't working. What should I do?

A: Make sure you're connected to the internet. If you are, TinyURL might be having problems. Try again later.

Q: Can Link Sanitizer shorten any link?

A: It uses TinyURL, so it can shorten most links. But some very long or complex links might not work.

Q: The "Decode" button isn't working.

A: The decode button only works on links that are encoded. Encoded links have symbols like %20 in them. If the link looks normal, decoding won't change it.

Q: Is Link Sanitizer free?

A: Yes! It's completely free to use.

Q: How can I help improve Link Sanitizer?

A: You can report bugs, suggest new features, or even help with the code! Check out our Contributing page.

Q: Where can I find the code for Link Sanitizer?

A: You can find it on our GitHub page.
